Computing & IT Basics

This course is aimed at teaching the students about the history of IT, the revolution of the ‘computer’ and the two most significant elements of IT, Web Design and Programming.

IT and Computing is a very important part of a child's education as more of our daily lives are being run via computers in some form or another, and the more IT literate a child can be the more it will open up opportunities for them in the future.

 

Summer Activities

Classroom Activities


During this course, we will have many practical activities in order to engage the students and familiarise themselves with the concepts they will learn. From the activities that are planned for this course are the following:

  1. Assembly and disassembly of a computer, studying its parts and how they are put together.

  2. Design of project

  3. Photography of food and cakes for course project

 

Course Project


As a part of this course, each child will learn the basics of designing a web page.   They will have two assignments to complete as a part of this course.

  1. 1.First assignment will be in a group where they will have to design a web page advertising food and cakes.  They will be required to design a logo, take pictures of special dishes and cakes that they will want to sell in their ‘fictitious’ web page.

  2. 2.The second assignment will be an individual effort aimed at giving them the opportunity to implement their own ideas based upon what they have learnt.  They can choose any topic but must finish it by the end of the course.

Each assignment will be 30% of their final grade with a final exam completing the final 40%.  All of their assignments will have the privilege of being displayed online on our website upon completion, with a special prize given to the one with the best web page.

  12. The definition of a static page

  13. The definition of an Interactive page

  14. The definition of a Dynamic page
