Supplementary notes & extracurricular aids

As part of Arabic Courses, we also provide additional notes with the "Madeenah Series" as a means of making the study material more applicable to the English speaking student.  The Madeenah series is a curriculum that is taught in the Islamic University of Madeenah, and is also taught with a collection of other books. So to do justice to this illustrious curriculum we have chosen to aid it with additional material that helps explain the book properly and also focus on other aspects of the Arabic language, like improving the students ability to express themselves, their vocabulary, their speaking and an array of other important faculties.

iPod Shuffle

We have developed audio studied aids for our students as a means to provide extra support and lessons to our students.  This is an optional addition, and contains important lessons, explanations, drilling exercises and tasks to help the student make the most out of their assignments.

Lessons

With our iPod Shuffles, each student will be provided with short quality lessons teaching the essentials of each chapter.  The point behind this is to aid the student in understanding the concepts contained within each lesson.  Sometimes understanding new concepts needs time to be absorbed, and on occasion, needs to be repeated a few times with practical examples to help solidify the lesson.  Each iPod will contain lessons to help the student achieve a good level of understanding, and especially aid that student who may be struggling, or who has missed the lesson due to no fault of his own.  Rather than fall behind or wait for the lesson to be taught again, one can simply put on the iPod Shuffle and listen to lessons covering the topics that they missed.

Explanation

From our years of experience in teaching Arabic as a second language, we have found that the most effective way to learn the language is to ‘listen’ to it being spoken, and to take time to try to understand it.  The biggest problem that students have is that once they return home from their lesson, they have no real option to ‘listen’ to a conversation, and to get their ears accustomed to the words and phrases they are trying to learn.  As part of our Shuffle Up scheme, we will also provide plenty of audio conversations in Arabic where one can listen to, and learn how to ‘practically’ apply the Arabic language.

Drilling Exercises & Tasks

Another part of learning the Arabic language that we have noticed is very important, is the ability for the student to practice their lessons on a regular basis.  Often there are many factors that prevent a student from revising.  The absence of their study material, the difficulty to access a computer or stereo, or just the demoralising feeling of reading material or books in a language the don’t fully understand without truly knowing if they are reading it properly.  We have provided with our iPod Shuffles, added ‘drilling exercises’ that makes sure that the weekly requirements of memorising new words and phrases are being met by the easiest means possible.  A tiny device that has 24 hours of play life in its battery, and the capacity to play quality drilling exercises that can be used at any time.  Weekly tasks that allow for the student to constantly pace themselves, and to make sure that they hear and learn the new words on a regular basis.

Recorded lessons

If, for whatever reason, a student is unable to attend a lesson and they wanted a recording of the lesson, the lesson can be recorded and loaded onto the iPod Shuffle in order that they can catch up on what they’ve missed.  This will guarantee that no lesson will ever be missed.

What about the costs?

The service is an extra supplementary service that is not inclusive in the costs of the actual course.  For use of our Shuffle Up scheme are the following:
