4 rakat before Asr

I have heard that there is Ikhtilaf on whether the 4 rakat prayer located before asr, should be prayed as 4 rakat or in two sets of two rakat.

Is there a stronger opinion or are both viewpoints equally acceptable?

From what I have understood, the hanafiyyah usually pray this one in 4's and others pray 2, but as for being equally acceptable, then I would need to verify that one.

However, what can be said is that 2 raka'ah for a Sunnah can be performed any time of the day (excluding the forbidden times) especially before asr.
