    40 days after childbirth .

I would like to know weather this is religious practice or a culture tradition..
I have been told that after child birth I shouldn't leave my house for 40 days. I find this practise a bit inconvenient as I have other commitments.

If u have the answer please give me proof of statement from a authentic Hadith.
    Jazak Allah khair

There is no reason why a woman must stay locked up in her home in Islam. Before Islam was completed, it was a 'punishment' for fornicating women to be under 'house arrest', but that has been abrogated for the punishment of stoning.

As for Hadeeth, then I don't know of any Hadeeth that says specifically that women are 'not prohibited' but on the other hand it is not required. Women are allowed to do what they like in the dunyaa and evidence is needed to prevent any action. That is a very important rule in Islam.

"Everything in the dunyaa is allowed except what has been specifically prohibited"

However, I guess from 'indirect' proof, one could say that the Hadeeth:
"لا تمتعوا نساءكم المسجد، و بيوتهن خير لهن"
"don't prevent your women from going to the masjid, and their homes are better for them"

Could be understood as an allowance to leave the home...maybe, but like I said, evidence would be necessary to prohibit, not to allow.
